Pre-construction ecological and archaeological surveys are underway at the Quanterness Community Wind Farm site.
Ecologists are carrying out ground truthing assessments, recording any plants, animals, birds and habitats present. The findings will guide how construction is planned and scheduled so that sensitive species are not disturbed.
Archaeologists are also on site to complete geophysical surveys. This involves using ground penetrating radar to detect any buried features or structures.
These surveys form an important part of the wind farm’s development process, ensuring that local wildlife and cultural heritage are protected throughout construction, planned for 2027.
